About the Book
Alec Dorn, a struggling but mildly accomplished professor of biology in 1935 New York, is tantalized when he hears tales of a cargo ship bound for England that encountered a strange anomaly while crossing the vast expanse of the Atlantic. An expedition is quickly formed, led by Cyrus Dorn, Alec’s gregarious but overbearing older brother, however their mission goes catastrophically wrong and they find themselves marooned, along with three members of their team, on an unnamed island in a version of the Atlantic that is not quite our own. On this island sits a nameless Kingdom, ruled over by a violently eccentric tyrant who carries strange weapons and controls even stranger creatures. But external threats pale in comparison to the dangers from within their own group, as alluring opportunity beckons from mysterious places. Out of the ashes of tragedy, enemies can become allies, rogues can become leaders, and the forgotten can become legends. But leaving one’s mark on history comes at a cost, for not all those who obtain great power are fit to wield it...
About the Author
Have you ever been so bored at a mindless job that your thoughts wandered and you started inadvertently writing a book? I’m Ryan, and that’s exactly what happened to me. I was a storyteller from a very young age. I grew up filming intricate (and absurdly long) Claymation movies on my old Hi-8 camcorder and attended college for filmmaking. Does anyone remember those old Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Claymation movies on YouTube?
As an adult, my focus has been on traveling the world, often looking for the wildest animal sighting I can find and the next great adventure in the process. But I had largely left my storytelling passion behind until this entire cast of characters began creeping up from somewhere in my subconscious while I put in my dutiful eight hours at my day job. They were persistent enough that I found my long-lost narrative voice once again.
